Frequently Asked Questions
No. The conversion from Bulgarian lev to euro will not lead to an increase in the prices of insurance services. The conversion process follows clear rules designed to ensure that consumer interests are fully protected.
No. The introduction of the euro does not affect the validity of your existing insurance contracts. They will remain in force under the same terms and conditions, with the only change being that all amounts will be calculated and displayed in euro instead of Bulgarian lev. The conversion will be carried out automatically, and there is no need to sign a new contract, an annex to the existing one, or take any other additional action.
The recalculation (conversion) will be carried out automatically at the official exchange rate. All amounts will be rounded to the second decimal place in accordance with the standard mathematical rounding rules.
No, the IBAN will not change. After January 1, 2026, when the euro becomes the official currency in Bulgaria, all existing bank accounts — including those previously held in Bulgarian lev — will be automatically converted to euro. The IBAN numbers of these accounts will remain unchanged.
This means you can continue using the same bank account for your payments to MetLife.
Starting from January 1, 2026, with the introduction of the euro as the official currency, the direct debit service will no longer be available as a method for paying insurance premiums. This change is due to updates in the banking infrastructure that are beyond the control of MetLife Bulgaria.
To continue making automated payments without visiting a bank branch, the most convenient option is to set up a standing order to one of our bank accounts.
This service is offered by many banks and can be accessed either through online banking or by visiting a bank office. We recommend contacting your bank or checking your online banking platform to see if and how you can create such an order.
When setting up the standing order, please make sure to specify:
- The exact amount in euro you need to pay. If you previously paid in Bulgarian lev, you can convert the amount by dividing it by the official exchange rate: 1.95583.
- The day of the month on which the payment should be made – based on your personal preferences and account inflows.
- The payment reference – only the number of your insurance policy.
Important: If you have more than one insurance policy, you must create a separate standing order for each one.
You can use one of the following MetLife Bulgaria bank accounts:
Postbank
- BIC: BPBIBGSF
- IBAN: BG29BPBI79401043401502
DSK Bank
- BIC: STSABGSF
- IBAN: BG11STSA93001521037395
